Placement Principal
1. ROLE SUMMARY AND DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Placement Principal reports directly to the CEO of PH Europe. The Role is a multi-disciplinary role covering all aspects day-today of Peel Hunt’s placement business with specific oversight and management of Peel Hunt Europe’s outsourced placement functions.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Role is a multi-disciplinary role covering all aspects of Peel Hunt’s Europe business:
i. Regulatory Environment
- Have an understanding of the regulatory environment in regards placement activities, and values and abilities consistent with the Danish FSA & European Regulations (as well as other jurisdictions where Peel Hunt Europe operates as required and appropriate).
ii. General Management oversight including
- Oversee the day-to-day placement activities and interactions and placement transactions undertaken
- Ensuring that adequate and appropriate systems and controls are in place to manage the risks within the Department;
- Review and approval of retail distribution platform clients and retail distribution platform activities of PH Europe;
- Work closely with the CEO and the Head of Risk and Compliance in improving the entity, proactively identifying areas for improvement and highlighting any inefficiencies in placement systems and processes; and
- Planning for and managing change in relation to placement activities & reporting requirements, regulations, etc. that impact Peel Hunt Europe
iii. Management of Outsourced Activities
- Oversight of the placement functions:
a. Placement transactions
Transactions
- Oversight of sales and market sounding activities, orders, allocations and transactions to book, reconcile and balance PH Europe systems, including the retail distribution platform systems
- Monitor and report on all cross-border placing transactions, ensuring full compliance with Danish and EU regulations
- Prepare monthly local management reporting, variance analysis and contribution to CEO and Finance and Operations Principal reporting
Regulatory reporting
- Maintain and prepare new and updated regulatory reporting requirements
- Assist Finance and Operations Principal in preparing periodic (monthly, quarterly) regulatory filings on placement activities
b. IT
- Complete oversight of outsourced platform application, application development, IT infrastructure and IT support teams on retail distribution platform activities.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with outsourcing provider’s front and back-office division heads to understand their information and systems needs and deliver to them in terms of retail distribution platform.
- Define the IT project road map and oversee delivery of development, infrastructure and other technical projects on placement activities.
- Maintain at all times the highest standard of professional conduct
- Manage relationships with all external technology application development and infrastructure vendors including review of their fit for future purpose.
- Evaluate risks and dependencies associated with current or anticipated placement technologies, along with a plan to develop contingency solutions to mitigate these as well as appropriate business continuity and disaster recovery mechanisms
c. Operations
- Settlement Operations: Responsible for the timely, accurate (including ledger entries), and efficient settlement of placement activities of PH Europe, including fail management, client/counterparty/custodian liaison/corporate action activities to effect settlement;
- Client Lifecycle Management: Responsible for the efficient and effective on-boarding, ongoing due diligence, management (including maintenance of static data) and off-boarding of retail distribution platform clients in accordance with the established policies of PH Europe and relevant regulatory framework;
- Operational Control & Reporting: Placement balance sheet reconciliations; and escalation & remediation of issues in collaboration with Finance and Operations Principal;
- Business Management: Responsible for project management and support on placement activities issues in collaboration with Finance and Operations Principal.
2. Maintain strong control environment over outsourced placement functions, including ensuring that process management procedures are efficient and meet objectives;
3. Perform appropriate reviews of material changes to key placement process, products, or business lines, including any new placement products or business lines, to ensure effective management of risks and the impact on the risk profile of the firm;
4. Work closely with PH Europe Finance and Operations Principal and PH LLP Director of Operations and PH Europe Risk and Compliance Principal to ensure best practices across the Group.
iv. Policy and Procedure Management
- Review and update policies and procedures regularly as appropriate, adding new policies and procedures where necessary.
- Ensure all relevant staff are trained and updated on operational and regulatory changes related to PH Europe’s outsourced placement functions.
v. Internal Audit
- Work co-operatively and constructively with the Internal Audit function, ensuring an open and transparent dialogue to allow them to undertake their role as the third line of defence.
Key Capabilities and Knowledge:
- Experience working with placements in financial services, either in an in-house or advisory role;
- Strong understanding of placement activities and the placement value chain (front, middle and back-office roles, responsibilities, and activities);
- Understanding the legal framework in regards placement activities (preferred)
- Analytical approach and ability to understand quickly and deal flexibly with complex problem solving;
- Negotiation skills;
- Self-starter, who is comfortable with coordinating ad-hoc and competing requirements and deadlines;
- Comfortable in working in multi-disciplinary, changing, environment;
- Consistent and high-quality approach to output produced (presentations, written reports, financial analysis);
- Ability to think both at an operational and strategic level;
