We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our Capital Markets and Investment Banking Technology team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science, ML, quantitative analysis, and financial markets.
This role involves working closely with business stakeholders, IT and other teams to surface insights from a variety of datasets, suggest and develop data products and data-driven insights, strategies and solutions that drive business growth and improve efficiency.
You will also be expected to help spread a culture of data driven decision-making across the firm.
Role responsibilities
Responsibilities and tasks include, but are not limited to:
- As a senior data scientist, you will perform exploratory data analysis on a variety of datasets using a range of tools and methodologies to uncover hidden patterns, trends and correlations.
- You will further develop on initial findings to suggest products, actionable insights or solutions that could be developed from them.
- You will then use these findings to inform strategic business decisions.
- You will analyse complex business problems in collaboration with Business Analysts and SMEs and assess and make big picture recommendations along with cost benefits analyses on how automated systems, workflows or solutions can be implemented to solve them.
- You will develop and build PoCs for identified projects along with other IT team members & SMEs.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to solve complex business problems using data driven methodologies to arrive at desired outcomes
- Help assess/define all the benefits, risks, downsides and costs of a particular project or product.
- Work with other IT teams to productionise successful PoCs.
- Communicate findings, recommendations and ideas, narratives and constraints clearly to business stakeholders via concise reports and presentations.
- Advise on improvements to the current Data Stack from a Data Science perspective.
- Complete all mandatory training and comply with rules, laws and regulations.
Job Requirements
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field or relevant experience
- Extensive experience in data science, preferably within the financial services industry.
- Experience with Machine Learning frameworks and libraries.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding of agile and knowledge of waterfall software development methods.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, SQL
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Good understanding of financial markets, instruments, and investment strategies.
- Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Prior knowledge of Azure would be useful
- Familiar with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau)
- Up-to-date with latest developments in technology
- Understanding of the regulatory environment, and values and abilities consistent with the FCA conduct rules.
